Technicon Design are currently looking for a Colour and Materials Finish Material Specialist to work onsite at our Swedish (Gothenburg) Automotive Design Studio. The Colour and Materials specialist will be focused on the Interior and Exterior Paint schemes, acting as the link between Creative Design, Engineering, suppliers and the Purchasing departments.

You will work cross projects and cross functions from initial benchmarks and target settings through to industrialization. The vacancy will require you to work very closely with Colour and Materials Finis designers, but also with Engineering and suppliers, in the development of new materials such as exterior colours, exterior and interior decors, interior trims and interior colour schemes. A key area to the role will be developing strategies, ensuring our deliveries of masters to the engineering side and to plan our Colour and Materials Finish development within Product Design. Sustainability is high on our agenda so a good understanding and knowledge in product sustainability is a beneficial skill based area.

Responsibilities and Duties within the role:

Support the Colour and Materials Finish Program and Specialist Designers with technical expertise in surface materials and related processes

Perform Material and Supplier Research, and organize supplier meetings

Evaluate techniques that suppliers present and gather an understanding of what it would mean in terms of design (including 3D design), timing and cost.

Act as design representatives in forum outside design department, when required.

Participate in – and contribute with technical input at Colour and Materials Feasibility, Interior- and Exterior design reviews.

Participate in Project Content discussions.

Prepare – and follow up budget and time schedule for material development.

Initiate – and document handshake for supplier selections for Master developments.

Coordinate that the technical requirements (pre-verification demands), for materials is agreed and communicated to selected suppliers.

 

Requirements:

B.Sc. or M.Sc. engineering OR equivalent relevant experience

Experience of working with polymers and plastic materials / And or paint.

Ability to drive and motivate across various teams and departments.

Good communication skills

Ability to build a wide network

Fluent in English

This is an ‘On Site’ located role – situated in Gothenburg, Sweden. The role is not offered as a Hybrid work arrangement. Applicants can benefit from Company Sponsorship if required to work in Sweden.
