Introduction:
Technicon Design have a new and exciting opportunity for a team consisting of:-
Lead Studio Engineer
Studio Exterior Engineer
Studio Interior Engineer
Location: Cheshire, UK.
Duration: The anticipated contract start date is 26/09/2022 until 06/05/2023.
(between the PR1-DF gateways (32 weeks). Plus a 6 week period post DF.
All candidates should be trained to a high standard in Catia V5 and be an experienced Catia V5 user. LCA/Teamcentre literate would be preferred but training will be provided wherever required. At present with the Covid-19 pandemic, the client is operating a hybrid working system where they will expect Studio Engineers work a number of days onsite per week (to be negotiated with Bentley). Lead Studio Engineer will report direct to the Studio Engineering Manager.
Description:
Lead Studio Engineering Skillset:
- Experienced Design Studio Engineering required, with experience in leading a project for Studio Engineering.
- Experience in Low volume, coachbuilding and/or show car projects.
- They must have both Interior and Exterior studio engineering skills.
- Experienced, highly skilled, Catia V5 Users.
- Knowledge of latest Interior and Exterior automotive legislation and IVA legislation.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to feedback to senior management using different formats, including Catia V5 and Microsoft office.
Exterior Studio Engineering Skillsets:
- Exterior Design Studio Engineering experience required.
- Experienced, highly skilled, Catia V5 Users.
- Knowledge of latest Exterior automotive legislation, IVA legislation, experience in communicating hardpoints and studies in Catia V5 and Microsoft office.
Interior Studio Engineering Skillsets:
- Interior Design Studio Engineering experience required.
- Experienced, highly skilled, Catia V5 Users, with a knowledge of Bentley vehicles and systems an advantage.
- Knowledge of latest Interior automotive legislation, IVA legislation, experience in communicating hardpoints and studies in Catia V5 and Microsoft Office.
These skillsets will be required to deliver the following during the gateway periods:
PR1 – DF (32weeks)
- Work with Designers, Surfacing team and engineering partner to develop the feasibility of the Theme(s), including possible overlays.
- Develop and monitor Primary and functional hardpoint datasets in Catia V5 to enable the designers to deliver feasible surfaces.
- Feed the agreed Primary and Functional hardpoints in to Design, complete Catia V5 studies where there are conflicts to understand if the Design theme is achievable and work with Concepts, Engineering functions and/or development partner (supplier) to resolve the conflicts.
- Maintain hardpoint/surface tracker/Top issues measles with latest status on designs acceptance and compliance of package and hardpoints.
- Suggest alternative technologies/solutions to solve design challenges.
- Check surfaces and feedback to surfacing and Design any errors prior to surface release.
- Attend and represent Design at relevant technical meetings.
- Complete Design overlay feasibility investigations, present back to Engineering/Project for inclusion in the project.
- Support modelling with project data and hardpoints for development of bucks/models.
- Work with the innovation department to validate and develop relevant innovations in to the Design theme.
- Use existing Gap and Rad plans and liaise with the supplier to guide surfacing and design to feasible gaps and rads. Feedback to Designers where there are conflicts.
- Work with the development partner to feedback any Engineering and manufacturing feasibility issues into Design.
- Work with Aero/Cooling to ensure the Aero/Cooling targets are met.
- Work with Chassis and Aero to feedback on Wheel theme feasibility.
- Awareness of the CMF strategy, support where required on feasibility issues.
- Maintain current ergo targets, highlight where new design is away from base car.
- Work with BY engineering functions and Engineering partner to agree safety and feasibility standards.
- Maintain the data register for all data.
- Lead Studio Engineer to communicate status of the project top issues with the studio engineering manager weekly.
At this stage in a program the package, design direction and meeting landscape can be fluid and may result in multiple variants of any given theme for specific purposes/presentations. The supplier should plan for these iterations.
Post DF (6 Weeks)
- Work with the engineering development partner to feed agreed Surface change requests in to Design, complete Catia studies where there are conflicts to understand if the Design theme is achievable and work with the engineering partner to resolve the conflicts.
- Monitor agreed Primary and Functional hardpoint status in the surfaces.
- Attend and represent Design at relevant technical meetings.
- Support modelling with project data and hardpoints for development of models.
- Work with Chassis and Aero to feedback on Wheel theme feasibility.
- Work with Design, BY R&D, Mulliner (Coach build) and Engineering development partner to produce a feasible car zero.
- Maintain the data register for all data in and out.
- Work with Design and EE to finalise the feasible headlamp and tail lamp internals.
- Communicate status of the project top issues with the studio engineering manager weekly.
Required qualifications:-
Engineering Degree.
CATIA V5 – Fully competent.
• Encourage and drive the team to development and achieve world class properties.
• Secure delivery of agreed program content at the required time, at agreed cost and with the right quality.
• Report project status to line organization as well as the Department management team according to the agreed processes and formats (e.g. Program Status Reports (PSR) etc).
• Lead the weekly Technical Program Meeting (TPM-S) and prepare issues for escalation at the Program Control Meeting (PCM-S).
• Direct contact with necessary departments within R&D and actively take part and drive the cross functional work within the department and unit.
